Normally when I play softball I play fairly relaxed and don't push myself too much. I have a rule that if I have to slide into a base in softball, I shouldn't be trying to take that base. But today was different and I did away with my normal softball play. Today was the championship. So of course I had to let my competitive side out. Today I was pushing the defense and trying to force them to throw me out for taking an extra base. I wasn't going to just settle for singles. Most of the time I was able to easily take the extra base. Once I actually was so close that I had to slide into the base. I was pretty upset when the umpire called me out even though I was clearly safe. Then it came down to the last inning. We gave up our three run lead in the top of the inning and the score was tied 12-12. So in the bottom of the inning our first two batters got out. Then I hit a ball that just somehow found a hole. I was about to stay at first until the fielder bobbled the ball and I started to go. But it wasn't enough to allow me to get to second safely. So I stopped halfway and started inching my way back to first as the second baseman came running at me. When I thought I was close enough to first, I turned and dove for the bag. But the first base(girl) was standing right in the way. So I essentially dove into her knee (not intentionally) and she missed the ball. So I tried to get up and run for second. But she was on top of me and was taking her time to get off. So I just stood up, which basically flipped her over onto her head. I then ran to second and slid in again and was this time called safe. Then I was moved over to third with the next batter and scored the following hit.

Obviously sliding in shorts does not agree with my knees. But I was given Player of the Game for both the semi-final and championship game tonight. So I guess you could say it was worth it. What can I say...winner winner chicken dinner.

Wow! How long did you let the blood drip? I guess it is a good thing that you won. :) Hopefully your knee won't kill you at practice tomorrow!

p.s. where did you hear the chicken dinner thing? I have never heard that!

Winner winner chicken dinner is something that they used to say on sportscenter and baseball tonight all the time.

It has been made more popular by the recent movie "21"
